Touring musician Sarah Hagen will be performing her one-woman musical comedy show “Perk Up, Pianist” at the Barrhead Composite High School drama theatre this Friday, Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $25 and are available in advance at Comfort Corner or at the door.

BARRHEAD - A Canadian pianist sometimes compared to the great Danish comedian/musician Victor Borge is the second artist to be featured in the Barrhead Arts Council’s abbreviated 2022 concert series.

Sarah Hagen will perform her one-woman, sit-down musical comedy show dubbed “Perk Up, Pianist!” at the Barrhead Composite High School drama theatre this Friday, Feb. 25, at 8 p.m.

As noted on her website, Hagen is an accomplished pianist who has performed in concert halls and on broadcasts throughout North America and Europe, including a solo performance at New York City’s Carnegie Hall in May 2013.

She has released four different albums, including the November 2021 release of “Johann Sebastian Bach: Goldberg Variations,” which has been nominated for four Music PEI awards.

Her debut solo album, “Glass House Dancing,” was also nominated for Classical Recording of the Year at the 2009 Western Canadian Music Awards.

Incidentally, she also completed five residencies at the Banff Centre for the Arts and has enjoyed two terms there as a collaborative pianist.

Hagen debuted her “Perk Up, Pianist” comedic show in the summer of 2016 and has performed it at fringe festivals and community theatres around the country, including a performance at the 2017 Edmonton Fringe Festival.

The show is described as the tale of a touring classical musician trying to stay optimistic in the midst of increasingly challenging and ridiculous situations.

Tickets for the show are $25 and are available in advance at Comfort Corner in Barrhead. They will also be sold at the door.

Jennifer Lechelt, president of the Barrhead Arts Council, indicated that because of the recent lifting of the Restrictions Exemption Program (REP), concert-goers will no longer need to show a QR code to prove they have been vaccinated against COVID-19. However, masking rules are still in effect.
