WESTLOCK – Just over two weeks into the new year, the Village of Clyde has called another byelection following the resignation of deputy mayor Patricia Hamaluk.

Hamaluk is the second councillor to step down and submit her resignation to council during the Jan. 10 meeting, citing her husband’s “serious medical conditions”.

Hamaluk was one of five new councillors elected in October and was voted to deputy mayor Oct. 20 – Coun. Starla Stydia will take over as deputy mayor.

Election day has been slated for March 22 with a nomination deadline of Feb. 22.

“She was a great asset and hopefully she will consider joining us again in the future,” said village mayor Charis Logan after accepting the resignation.

Meanwhile, a unanimous motion was passed that night to allow mail-in ballots for the election after village CAO Ron Cust noted that several residents had inquired about them in October.
