Three Barrhead residents taken to hospital after Dec. 4 motor vehicle collision

A 34-year-old Onoway man and his two dogs died as the result of their injuries

An RCMP media release states that three Barrhead residents were taken to hospital following a Dec. 4 motor vehicle collision.

BARRHEAD-Three Barrhead residents were transported to area hospitals after a Dec. 4 two motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of a 34-year-old Onoway man and his two dogs.

The collision happened at about 1:30 a.m. on Highway 18 near Highway 757 in Lac Ste. Anne County.

Mayerthorpe RCMP, along with Lac Ste. Anne EMS and the fire department, responded to the accident.

An RCMP media release states that the vehicles, a car and an SUV, were travelling on Highway 18 when the car, which was travelling southbound, crossed the centre line, colliding with the SUV heading the opposite direction.

The driver of the car, a 34-year-old Onoway man, was declared dead on the scene. Mayerthorpe RCMP transported two dogs, the only other occupants of the car, to a local vet where they died from their injuries.

The driver of the SUV, a 37-year-old man, was taken to hospital by EMS. The two other occupants of the vehicle, a 45-year-old woman and a 14-year-old female, were airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance to an Edmonton area hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

All the occupants of the SUV are from Barrhead. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The RCMP states that the name of the deceased will not be made available and no further updates are expected.
