If you have dreamed of living out your on-stage debut, joining the Westlock Drama Club might be for you.
The drama club is back up and running with a new club owner and the drive to bring another play to the Westlock stage. The club is looking to put on a full production, which has not yet been decided on.
Cynthia Rondeau, the new club owner, said that before a production can be decided, they need to know the numbers and what people are interested in. However, whichever play is chosen will come from the public domain, which would allow them to take their time and change their minds if the script does not work. “But ultimately we’re going to wait until the first couple of rehearsals, where we’ll discuss the scripts with everyone interested in joining the club.”
Rondeau fell in love with the theatre during high school.
“Me and my friend, a couple of years ago, were doing what we thought was our last show in high school and we really didn’t want that to be our last show.”
They decided that it would not be and worked to claim ownership of the club again.
Clubs like this are a great way for people to stretch their acting jeans while also providing community members the opportunity to do drama again, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With COVID and some of the other serious stuff going on in the world, we thought it would be something light and fun that the community could do together to bring some more joy into everyone’s life.”
The Westlock Drama Club is open to anyone over the age of 10 who is able to join. Roles are decided based on individuals' interests and abilities. “We do have a wide range of different roles and skill sets that are needed within the club and in theatre.”
Overall, Rondeau hopes this opportunity will encourage new friendships and create an interconnected community.
