Two COVID cases in two days reported in Boyle area

Boyle COVID 0826-2
A second active case of COVID-19 was reported in or around the Village of Boyle Aug. 26, bringing the total number of cases in the village to four and to eight within the borders of Athabasca County.

A second active case of COVID-19 in as many days in or around the Village of Boyle has been reported.

According to the Government of Alberta's Aug. 26 update of its geospatial map, which reports the number of total, active and recovered cases in a municipality or geographical area, there are now two active cases of the virus that has dominated headlines and imaginations since a global pandemic was declared in March.

There have now been four confirmed cases in the southeast corner of Athabasca County, which includes Boyle and the surrounding area on the government map. The six earlier cases within the county have recovered.

Exact locations of active cases are kept confidential, so whether the case is in the actual village or the immediate surrounding area is unknown.

On Aug. 25, the North Corridor Co-op posted a message to its Facebook page telling followers one of their employees had tested positive for the virus, but was asymptomatic, self-isolating and hadn't worked in the store since Aug. 11.

Among Athabasca County's neighbours, there is currently one active case in the County of Barrhead and one active case in Smoky Lake County, while Westlock County and Thorhild County both report no current cases.

Alberta recorded 127 new cases Aug. 26, bringing the provincial total to 1,176. Forty-eight of those are currently in hospital, including seven in intensive care.

No new deaths were reported in the province in the last 24 hours, but one additional death reported Aug. 25 brought that number to 235 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Nearly 11,800 people have recovered after testing positive for the virus in Alberta.

Across Canada, 126,000 cases have been reported since March, resulting in 9,094 deaths and 112,000 recoveries.
