Nestow - Two women are dead following a July 31 collision on Highway 2 near the hamlet of Nestow.

Westlock RCMP were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision at 2:44 p.m., stated an RCMP press release that was distributed later that night.

The initial investigation appears to show a northbound truck collided with a southbound SUV, after the truck crossed into the southbound lane, police said. However, the precise cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Two of the women in the SUV were declared dead on the scene, while the third occupant of the vehicle was transported to hospital. The four people in the truck were also taken to hospital. Their injuries are unknown at this time.

An RCMP collision analyst remained on scene late into the evening as did clean-up crews to clear the debris. Traffic was rerouted throughout the day until nearly midnight to allow for the investigation to take place.
