CLYDE – Nomination Day continues to be extended in the Village of Clyde as no residents have put their names forward for the vacant council seat over the past two days.

Assistant CAO Jaye Parrent confirmed they’ve extended Nomination Day to this morning, Thursday, Feb. 24, from 10 a.m. to noon — the original Nomination Day was Feb. 22. The cycle will repeat daily until a candidate comes forward, or six business days elapse — if no nominations are received by the end of the sixth day the village will have to contact the minister of Municipal Affairs for further guidance.

Just over two weeks into the new year the Village of Clyde was forced to call another byelection following the resignation of deputy mayor Patricia Hamaluk, the second councillor to step down since the municipal election in October. Jerry Austin, who was one of five new councillors acclaimed to council Oct. 18, stepped down in advance of the Nov. 8 council meeting citing medical issues.

On Dec. 20, Philip Petkau and Gerald Giroux submitted their names for the vacant seat, which was claimed by Petkau as Giroux withdrew his name from consideration.
