The Westlock and District Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its first awards gala after being delayed by COVID-19. The gala was initially slated to take place in 2020 but was put on hold as the pandemic surged across the country. Now, nominations are open and the chamber is ready to go ahead with plans that have been two years in the making.

WESTLOCK – The Westlock and District Chamber of Commerce inaugural awards gala is a go for 2022 ... hopefully.

After initially being slated for April 2020, the gala was put on ice for two years as the COVID-19 pandemic reared its ugly head and restrictions were put in effect across the country, preventing the chamber from gathering to recognize local businesses.

Now slated for April 23, 2022, the gala will feature an awards ceremony to celebrate businesses in and around Westlock and the efforts made throughout the past two years. Nominations for 11 different categories will be opened with over 100 previous nominations from 2020 being added this year.

Categories include customer service for individuals and businesses; restoration and renovation for businesses that have undergone upgrades; innovation for those who have found a creative approach to commerce; social media for those utilizing online platforms to provide services to the community; a community ambassador award; a new business award; and finally, the coveted Business of the Year Award.

“It’s a consideration of a lot of things: the success of the business, its marketing and promotion advertising, the quality of their product or services, the employee and employer relationship and just a lot of stuff like that,” said chamber president Graeme Harrington.

While hopeful the gala will go ahead this year, Harrington says he is prepared to call it off depending on COVID-19 restrictions closer to the date.

Nominations are currently open and can be made on westlockchamber.com homepage where a form can be found and submitted. Additionally, nominations can be made on the chamber’s Facebook page or dropped off in-person to the Properzi Tims office. Forms can also be e-mailed to [email protected]

Harrington notes nominations can be made by anybody for any business in the area and are not limited to chamber members only. Businesses may also be nominated for many categories, provided they fit the specific criteria.
