Westlock area COVID-19 update: 12 active cases, 169 total

WESTLOCK — The Westlock area has recorded one new COVID-19 case since yesterday’s update, and two people have recovered.

There are 12 active cases of 169 recorded since the start of the pandemic. One person has died, a 90-year-old man at the Westlock Continuing Care Centre, and 156 others have recovered.

The area includes the Town of Westlock, Westlock County and the Village of Clyde.

The outbreak at the Continuing Care Centre has been resolved.

The province has administered 99,814 doses of the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines as of yesterday. More than 10,000 people have received both doses. Canada won’t be receiving any new Pfizer vaccines this week while the plant in Belgium is undergoing upgrades.

In Alberta, 366 new cases were reported today out of 8,300 tests for a positivity rate of 4.4 per cent. There are 8,652 active cases in the province.

Fourteen more people have died which brings the death toll in Alberta to 1,587. Hospitalizations sit at 626, with 108 of them in ICU.

There are 266 active alerts in schools, and 12 schools are on outbreak with five or more cases. In total, there are 526 cases in schools. None of the schools in the Westlock area have two or more cases.

Alberta’s chief medical officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw is scheduled to give the next live update Jan. 27.
