WESTLOCK — A Westlock store shut down yesterday after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

In a message shared on Facebook and posted on the store’s front door, Home Hardware announced they’ll be voluntarily disinfecting the store “as a precaution.” They’re set to reopen Jan. 11.

The employee’s last shift was Dec. 29. Home Hardware says the person got tested Dec. 30, received the positive result Dec. 31, and is currently self-isolating.

“As required by Alberta Health Services any team member who may have had direct contact with the infected individual is following health and safety guidelines,” the store wrote.

“The health and safety of our employees and our local community is paramount, and we remain committed to following all health and safety guidelines set out by Alberta Health Services, including but not limited to wearing masks, physical distancing, proper hand hygiene and enhanced cleaning protocols.”

Currently, there are 20 active cases of COVID-19 in the Westlock area. Since March, 144 people have tested positive, 123 people have recovered, and one person has died.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer, is scheduled to give a COVID-19 update today at 3:30 p.m.
