WESTLOCK – At long last, two Westlock institutions are slated to fully reopen to the public this week.

The Westlock Municipal Library had been gearing up to open on Day 1 of Stage 2 of Alberta's Open for Summer Plan June 10, but a possible COVID-19 positive result meant they had wait until today, June 14. Despite its doors being closed to the public all last week, the library did resume curbside pickup June 8.

“All the staff are (COVID-19) negative and we are on track to open to the public on Monday,” library director Lisa Old confirmed via e-mail June 10.

Meanwhile the Pioneer Museum will open for the summer tomorrow, June 15, and be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays until Aug. 21.

“We are looking forward to being able to have visitors in to see our collections and to learn more about the history of Westlock and area. We are excited to announce that we have reopened an exhibit that was under construction last summer and we have plans for new exhibits that are in the works,” said museum coordinator Rebecca Skuban, noting they have an ongoing stream of content going out on their social media platforms for those who would like to follow along and learn more about the museum from home.

“We are finding that in light of the pandemic, many people don't realize that we are opening, but we are here and ready to be explored.”
