Wind warning in effect for TC area

Gusts between 90-120 km/h could lead to snow squalls
local-news

ATHABASCA/BARRHEAD/WESTLOCK — Environment Canada issued a wind warning earlier this evening for the areas of Athabasca, Barrhead and Westlock.

Gusts between 90 and 120 km/h are expected to hit the area in the evening and subside by the tomorrow morning. Damage to buildings, loose objects flying around or tree branches breaking could occur.

The winds could also lead to snow squalls, for which Environment Canada has also issued a warning. They’re periods of intense but brief snowfall that could lead to rapidly reduced visibility.

Travel could be hazardous, and a warning is issued when bursts of heavy snow could lead to zero visibility.

The warnings also cover the counties of Thorhild and Woodlands, and southern portions of the MD of Lesser Slave River.
