WESTLOCK – A 38-year-old woman was airlifted to an Edmonton-area hospital Saturday morning following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 44 at the Busby turnoff.

Westlock RCMP say that right around 9:30 a.m. June 26, a mini van that had been travelling south attempted to turn east on to Highway 651. Before it could complete the turn it was struck by an SUV that had been travelling north.

Westlock RCMP Cpl. Leigh Drinkwater said the driver of the mini van was taken to a city hospital via STARS, while the driver of the SUV was taken to hospital in Westlock and later released. In addition to the drivers, each vehicle also contained two passengers, who were treated on scene by EMS. Traffic was slowed on Highway 44 throughout the morning, but the scene was cleaned up before 1 p.m.

“As far as whether we lay any charge, we’re still waiting on one more statement, so the matter is still under investigation,” said Drinkwater.
