The Boyle School Huskies girl’s volleyball team kept rolling last weekend as they won their ‘Running With the Dogs’ tournament.
The team has now won six gold medals in as many tournaments this season.
“The girls performed well all weekend,” said team coach Michelle Lazenby.
Indeed, they made it through the round robin undefeated on their way to battling the Plamondon Hawks in the finals, where they secured yet another gold.
The girls may have felt the pressure of playing in front of their home fans, but they did a good job hiding it.
“There might have been a little extra pressure, (but) they showed how they come together, they have maturity as a team and focus on achieving their goals.”
The team will practice and then host a red-eye tournament on Thursday as they get ready for zones. Their goal is to get through to provincials, but they don’t want to get ahead of themselves.
At least, that’s the message the coach is delivering.
“Winning offers confidence, and I advise to them to carry it wisely,” she said.
Many good teams fall into the trap of underestimating their opponents only to be upset by them, so the coach hopes her team will keep that in mind.
Whatever happens at zones and provincials, this has been a truly remarkable season for the Boyle girls.
“We’re playing better than we expected. They’re hoping to do the best that they can do, and I don’t want to put pressure on being in a medal match,” said the coach.
“I don’t want to put pressure on the girls. I want them to do their best.”
