Westlock Red Lions set on top of the NCABL

Westlock wins big in Highway 33 showdown with Barrhead Orioles

BARRHEAD/WESTLOCK - The Westlock Red Lions had little trouble dispatching their Highway 33 rivals, defeating the Barrhead Orioles on the road in North Central Alberta Baseball League (NCABL) action 18-4 on June 3.

Westlock got off to a quick start, scoring six runs in the first three innings while blanking their opponents.

However, the Red Lions did most of the damage in the fourth inning, scoring seven runs. Barrhead got on to the scoreboard in the last inning, scoring four runs.

Ayden Cote went the distance for the Red Lions for the win, striking out 14 batters and walking six. The day before, Westlock defeated Barrhead, 19-3, at home. The win puts the Red Lions' record at 6 wins versus 1 loss, good enough for first place, while the loss puts the Orioles' record at 1 win, 6 losses and one tie, good enough for fourth place.
