The Boyle Minor Ball Association is hosting the Pembina Baseball Association's Mosquito year-end tournament June 16.
Ten other teams will join the Boyle Bandits to wrap up their season at Millview Park.
Jenny Veremy, the president of the Boyle Minor Ball Association, said she is really looking forward to the event.
"We have teams coming in from Athabasca, Slave Lake, Barrhead, Busby, Clyde, Westlock, and Waskatenau," she said. "This is the first year Boyle will be hosting the tournament. The Pembina association usually likes to alternate the areas in which we hold the tournament, and Boyle gets to do it this year."
Veremy said about 150 people will be coming out to the event.
"There is usually about 10 to 12 children ages 10 and 11 who play for each team," she said. "You also have your coaches and parents coming in as well, so that will accumulate quite a few people. Overall, it will be lots of good times for the players at this event."
She added there were lots of preparations to be made in planning for the tournament.
"We had to make sure we had enough umpires per game," Veremy said. "We also had to make sure the concession was available, as well as quite a few other items before the tournament started."
The association also approached the village about forgoing the nominal fee that is normally charged to use the field.
"It was a relief to us that the request was granted," she said. "We also have quite a few sponsors helping us out as well."
She said the sponsors include Tri-Gen Construction Ltd., Green Leaf Field Distributors, GTS Powersports and RV in Grassland, Athabasca Automotives, Rural Roots Salon, Pioneer Offroad Rentals, as well as NSI.
"Each one was very generous with their donations," Veremy added. "So we are very thankful for the funding."
The tournament will start at 9 a.m., and will wrap up with the final game beginning at 6 p.m.
"We hope our team, the Bandits, do well at this tournament," Veremy said. "The team has only had one loss so far this season, but we have not played against a lot of the teams who have appeared at this tournament, so we will just have to wait and see how the team does."
