The senior Boyle Husky girls’ volleyball team is heading back to provincials for the second year in a row after winning zones at home this past Saturday.

The Huskies ended up going undefeated as the hosts, finishing with a 5-0 record overall.

“I’m very proud of my team,” exclaimed Michelle Lazenby, head coach of the Huskies.

The Huskies ended up playing the St. Mary’s Sharks from Westlock in the final and winning two sets to none. They beat the Sharks 25-18 and 25-20.

Unlike some of the other teams, all of the girls had a part in the winning Saturday.

“It didn’t take just a few players. It took everybody,” said Lazenby.

It was the second time the Huskies defeated the Sharks in zones. In the third game of the round robin, it took three sets instead of two to defeat St. Mary’s.

Boyle and Westlock traded wins in the first two sets before the Huskies were able to win 15-12 in the third set.

Boyle also defeated the Thorsby Sabres, who took out Grassland, in the semi-final match-up.

The senior girls will head to Bassano this Wednesday to compete against 10 other teams at provincials.

Playing at provincials last year will give the Huskies the experience they lacked last year.

“I’m looking forward to the girls gaining some good experience when they play some of these really good teams this Wednesday,” added Lazenby.
