The Westlock Wild will return to the field, just as soon as the fields dry out.
The boys and girls of summer are anxious to get back out on the diamonds, said Westlock Minor Ball Association president Al Lyslo, and have been practicing indoors at the Rotary Spirit Centre as they wait for their home turf to dry out.
“We had 151 players sign up this year, which is actually up from the last couple of years,” he said.
Westlock will be fielding several teams, of both genders, including beginner’s tee ball for girls and boys, two mosquitoes teams, two bantam teams and one pee wee team for the boys and one bantam and one pee wee team for the girls.
Due to a lack of teams to compete against in the region for the bantam girls, they will be playing in an Edmonton softball league and will play their home games in the greater Edmonton area.
Game nights are Monday and Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and take place at the diamonds adjacent to Westlock and District Community Hall. Some girls games will also take place at the ball diamond in Clyde.
Lyslo said he hopes to see some great baseball and to see some championships come to Westlock.
“I’m looking forward to another great season and thanks to all the volunteers” said Lyslo.
The season is expected to begin the first week of May.
