Mixed Bonspiel a big success

The 2012 Athabasca Mixed Open Bonspiel went off without a hitch last weekend. The event was hosted by the Athabasca Curling Club at the Multiplex and featured 22 teams, many of which came from out of town to take part in the event.

The 2012 Athabasca Mixed Open Bonspiel went off without a hitch last weekend.

The event was hosted by the Athabasca Curling Club at the Multiplex and featured 22 teams, many of which came from out of town to take part in the event. Curling action got started on Friday night and continued all day Saturday and most of Sunday.

When all the rocks were thrown, the team of skip Dennis Saby, 3rd Cathie Creaser, 1st Helen Walker, 2nd Bob Dick and Bill Creaser emerged as ‘A’ champions (Hunter Motors). The ‘B’ championship (sponsored by Buy Low Foods) was won by skip Chester Wiselka, 3rd Maria Wallach, 2nd Nick Wallach and 1st Kerry McNamara. The ‘C’ championship (sponsored by Brokerlink) was awarded to skip Dale Krysta, 3rd Roxanne Gill, lead Virginia Gill-Krysta and 2nd Ralph Gill.

All the winners received embroidered shirts. There were also cash prizes up for grabs throughout the weekend.

“It was good competition; all close games,” said ‘A’ champion Dennis Saby. “There were lots of good curlers, lots of good rinks. Everyone had a good time.”
