The Athabasca Bantam Trappers saw their undefeated season get washed away with the rain June 1.

Their record fell to 4-and-1 with a decisive 17-8 loss to the Waskatenau Braves.

Head Coach Kurtis Wiselka said this obviously was not their best game this year.

"This brings us back to reality," said Wiselka. "We now know what we need to work on, and also maybe not do Friday night games anymore."

Both teams braved some rainy weather for five innings to play ball at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex's Senior Ball Diamond, after a May 30 game against Morinville was postponed due to wet weather.

From the start of this game, the Braves dominated, taking a 3-nothing lead after the first inning.

Things looked a bit better for the Trappers in the second, scoring the maximum five runs to four for the visitors, giving the Braves a 7-5 lead after two.

But in the third, Waskatenau's spark lit up again, outscoring them 3-1 in this inning, and then blanking them 5-nothing in the fourth, securing a lead of 15-6.

And in the fifth and final inning, each team managed to get two runs each, which all but sealed the deal for the Trapper's opponents.

Keenan Sikora, who normally plays in the third baseman position, started as pitcher for the first time with the Trappers this game.

"It was a great opportunity for me," said Sikora. "It was an opportunity for me to learn, and look back on so I can be better the next time the opportunity rolls along."

Wiselka added the whole game was a great learning experience for the Trappers.

"We'll continue to work on the fundamentals, and hopefully have everything ironed out for the next game," he said.
