WESTLOCK - The Westlock Red Lions are now up 5-0 after scoring an 8-3 victory over the Fort Saskatchewan Reds in an away game Aug. 6.

That leaves just three games remaining in this eight-game mini-season within the North Central Alberta Baseball League (NCABL).

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 season didn’t get underway until July 15, when the Red Lions opened the year with a 6-0 victory over Fort Saskatchewan.

Six teams are playing in this NCABL mini-season, with Westlock being lumped together with Fort Saskatchewan and the Parkland Twins.

The other pool features the Edmonton Primeaus, the Edmonton Athletics and the Sherwood Park Athletics.

The top two teams from each pool will advance to crossover playoffs starting in mid-September. Given that the Westlock team has won five of its eight games, the Red Lions are basically guaranteed to advance to the post-season.

But first, the Red Lions must still finish their final three games. The first of these is a home game with the Reds at Keller Field on Aug. 20 at 7:15 p.m.

Westlock then goes on the road again for a final away game on Monday, Aug. 24, against Parkland.

Their last match will then take place in Westlock on Thursday, Aug. 26. This final match will pit them against the Twins.
