Another successful season is in the books for Barrhead’s figure skaters.

Competing in their final meet of the year at the SASC’s Springsational in St. Albert over the weekend, the Barrhead Figure Skating Club’s skaters acquitted themselves very well in bringing home four medals.

“Overall the kids did great,” said club parent Diane Magill. “The club was well represented with 12 skaters competing over the three days.”

Leading the medal parade was Alyssa Albertson, who won gold with her Junior Bronze FreeSkate ‘E’ routine.

Also winning medals were Katie Magill with a bronze in the Pre-Preliminary FreeSkate ‘M’ division, Emma Botros with a bronze in Introductory Elements ‘G,’ and Hannah Raju bringing home a bronze in Introductory Elements ‘L.’

Even though there were only four medallists, the club had a number of skaters who narrowly missed the podium with fourth-place finishes.

Lauren Bernes, Amber Properzi, Austin Golby and Shaylynn Sanderson each came up a tad short in their bid for medals.

“The club is very proud of all our skaters and very appreciative of all our coaches,” Magill said.

With the on-ice skating season over in Barrhead, the skaters have some time off to relax and recharge for the new season in September. In order to help them stay in shape, or get back into shape, the club is hosting a conditioning camp in August.

The Boot Breaker Conditioning Camp will run August 13-24, and is designed to help skaters train and learn different elements of theatrical skills and interpretation. The camp will also include dry land training, including dance, jumping classes and fitness training.

Any skaters interested in registering for the camp are asked to call Tara Golby at 780-674-8108. The registration deadline is June 1.
