The U15 Knights finished off the club volleyball season royally, earning a silver medal at provincials May 4-5 in Red Deer.
The team, made up of members from around the Westlock region, had a perfect round robin portion of the tournament in the U15 Volleyball Alberta Division 2 Provincials and made their way all the way to the final against East Kootenay, but couldn’t pull out one more win.
Along the way to the finals, they beat teams from Spruce Grove, Sherwood Park and Peace River. Then they overcame the Red Deer Inferno in the playoffs and then Sherwood Park once again, in two sets, to make their way into the finals.
“It was a huge accomplishment, playing against bigger, city teams from Calgary and Edmonton all the time, and Red Deer and Grande Prairie. We held our own against all those teams so it was a pretty special weekend for sure,” said Snell, who also noted that with the silver performance, the teams is now ranked among the top 15 in the province.
It has been quite a successful season for the young team, which placed second in a premier league tournament earlier in the year to bump up their ranking overall.
The team has played in three premier Volleyball Alberta sanctioned tournaments throughout the year in Calgary, Red Deer and Grande Prairie, before returning to Red Deer for provincials.
