The Barrhead Orioles will host the Mosquito ‘AA’ Provincial Championships this Friday to Sunday, Aug. 3-6. “These guys are pretty excited (to host provincials),” said Barrhead Minor Ball registrar Angela Kramm, whose son plays on the team.

Three Westlock Rock Lacrosse teams travelled to Calgary July 12-15 to compete in the Alberta Lacrosse Association Provincial finals and all collected silver medals.

The Westlock Red Lions were up and down at Keller Field last week, defeating the St. Albert Cardinals 6-2 July 16 before losing a 16-13 slugfest to the Stony Plain Mets July 19.

It promises to be a big weekend for baseball in Barrhead, as the Peewee ‘AA’ and Barrhead ‘AA’ Orioles will both be hosting their respective Baseball Alberta provincial championships from Friday to Sunday, July 27-29.

There were just over 100 entries for the 15th annual Highridge Amateur Open Rodeo on July 14, which was hosted by the Highridge Agricultural Society at its grounds southeast of Barrhead. The payout for first to fourth place was split 40/30/20/10.

The Grey Lions knocked another one out of the park July 5, defeating the Spruce Grove Eagles 14-1 at Keller Field. The club is now 7-1 in the Alberta West Central Baseball Association, with seven games left in the regular season.
