Alan David Barratt

28 JANUARY, 1941 - 21 DECEMBER, 2020

Alan “Al” David Barratt, 79, passed away suddenly on December 21, 2020 in Abbotsford, BC with his wife by his side.

Al was born in Torquay, England on January 28, 1941 to Charles and Doris Barratt. His father passed away when he was just 8 months old. Al went to Military school until the age of 12, at this point he moved to Canada.

Al is survived by his wife Daphne Murphy, of 35 years, his children Lynn Barratt, David (Kathrine Webber) Barratt, Lori Barratt Pratt (Greg - deceased), Robert (Angela Schmidt) Murphy, Susan (Brian Wright) Murphy, Leslie (Juan Perez) Christianson. Al is also survived by his grandchildren Shawna, Dylan, Andrew, Taylor, Toni, Peyton and Maya and great grandson Hayden. Al is also survived by his siblings Beryl Stone (England), Jan McNeil (New Zealand), Lynn Pett (New Zealand) and Ros & Beau McGee (Australia), also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Pre-deceased by his father Charles Barratt, his mother Doris (Leslie) Payne, and his brothers John and Peter Payne.

Al was a welder by trade and owner of Oil Springs Welding which took Al between Alberta and British Columbia. His favourite past times included fishing, hunting, boating, tending to his vegetable gardens, cooking, and especially spending time with his family and friends having a cold one while feasting on one of their famous meals. He was happiest on the water, full cup in hand, traps dropped and calm waters. In Al’s life he never met someone that would be a stranger for long, they would become a lifelong friend or an unofficial member of his family. His door was always open to anyone and everyone. Al could not and would not sit still so if you needed something done he would be right there to lend a hand to anyone that needed it, even if he didn’t know what he was doing, he would try his hardest to figure it out.

He will be laid to rest with his father and friends at a later time, followed by a celebration of life. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army or an Animal Wildlife Protection program.
