Elaine Petryshyn

Sep. 5, 1935 - May 17, 2025

It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Elaine Marie Gabrielle Petryshyn (nee Sabourin) on May 17, 2025 after a brief hospital stay at the age of 89, with Donna, Janet and Michelle by her side.

Elaine will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Donna (Ted) Dul, Janet (Derek) Rasmussen; son, Daniel and his friend, Shirley; special friend, Maggie; fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline; sisters-in-law, Rose, Margaret, Aline, Geraldine and Alice, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Elaine was predeceased by her husband, of sixty-six years, Frank; son, Robert; sisters, Anita, Rita, and Yvette; and brothers, Alcide, Ernie, Richard and Paul.

Elaine was born September 5, 1935, to Eli and Corinne Sabourin, in Edmonton, AB. Elaine married Frank, on August 21, 1954, in Our Lady of Victories Church in Vimy. After living in Edmonton, and on the farm at Dapp, they moved with son, Robert, to Dawson Creek, BC. Elaine worked as a dietitian at the hospital, taking a short leave when son Daniel joined the family. In 1964, after Robert completed the school year, she joined Frank at the farm in Dapp where earlier in the year he had started construction of the family home. In 1965, Donna joined the family, followed by Janet in 1968.

Elaine worked alongside Frank on the farm as well being employed with Rochester Hatchery and Conoco while she tended her large garden and lovingly cared for her family. Of course, there was always time for dancing and socializing Saturday nights at the Legion, visiting neighbors and vacationing with family.

It was such a blessing that Elaine could stay on the farm enjoying the wildlife that abounded, until shortly before her passing. Like she said many times since Frank’s passing, “This is my home, why would I want to live elsewhere.”

Funeral service was held Tuesday, May 27, 2025, 11:00 am at St. Finnan’s Catholic Church in Dapp, interment at the Halach Cemetery, followed by dinner at the Memorial Hall in Westlock.

In lieu of flowers please consider memorial donations to the University Hospital Foundation at www.givetoUHF.ca.
