We are sad to announce that Muriel

Behiel of Westlock, Alberta lost her

battle with Alzheimer’s on February

29, 2024, at the age of 80 years.

Muriel will be lovingly remembered by her husband of

58 years, Gilbert Behiel; her four children: Craig (Lonnie)

Behiel and their children Brooke and Austin, Sue Despins and

her sons Aaron, Mitchell (Celina), and Scott (Megan), Karren

(Brian) Kossey and their daughters Alexandria and Samantha,

Brad (Pookie) Behiel and their son Keagan; her siblings,

Allan (Edith) Demers, Irene Provencal, Leo (Margie) Demers,

Alice (Doug) Macauley, and many nieces, nephews, relatives

and friends.

Muriel was predeceased by her father and mother, Camille

and Jane Demers; her sister, Myrtle Paradis; brother-in-law,

Bob Provencal; and her son-in-law, Ron Despins.

Muriel was very proud to be a registered nurse who graduated

in 1965 from the Edmonton General Hospital School of Nursing.

She married Gilbert Behiel the same year and they bought a

farm west of Westlock in the Hazel Bluff area where they

raised their four children. Muriel worked at the Immaculate

Hospital part time until 1977. She then transferred over to the

Sturgeon Health Unit and loved helping people in their homes

as a home care nurse for the next 30 years.

The next chapter of Mom and Dad’s adventure was when they

bought a motor coach in 1986 and formed Wild Rose Bus

Lines. Mom loved planning the trips and was a natural hostess

which suited being a wonderful tour guide on the road.

Muriel loved her friends and launched a store in Westlock

called the Best Kept Secret where she was able to combine

her love of antiques, clothing, and specialty bras. It was a

place where the coffee pot was always on, and friends could

gather. Her smile, her willingness to assist anyone in need,

and her big hugs will be greatly missed by everyone she

crossed paths with.

The family wishes to send a special thank-you to the staff at

Copper Sky Lodge in Spruce Grove.

A Funeral Mass for Muriel was held at 11:00 am on Thursday,

March 7th, 2024.
