Douglas Leroy Borg
April 16, 1947 to July 11, 2022
The family of Doug Borg of Fort Assiniboine sadly announce his passing after a brief series of health issues.
Doug was well known for his love of local history and was always available to pass his knowledge along to local and touring groups. He was also passionate about local politics, having served as the first Reeve of Woodlands County and as Councillor and Reeve for many years.
After his term with Woodlands County ended, Doug enrolled in and obtained his Local Government certificate at the University of Alberta. He later took the position of interim Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Swan Hills, which he found challenging and thoroughly enjoyed.
One of Doug’s lifelong dreams was fulfilled in his later years when he twice travelled to Sweden to explore his ancestry. Doug will be forever missed by his loving family – wife Tania, sons Trevor, Wayde (Becky), Ian (Sara); daughters Charity (Trevor Sokolan), Megan; grandchildren Kody, Chad, Chris, Gavin, Alyssa, Ryan, Freya; great-granddaughters Lenyn, Lexa.
Doug was predeceased by his parents Otto and Florence, three sisters, and one brother.
At the request of the family no service will be held. A gathering of immediate family for internment will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s name can be made to the Cross Cancer Institute or to a charity of one’s choice.
