Cooke, Wilma “Jim”

Wilma “Jim” Cooke passed away at home Monday October 4, 2021 at the age of 88 years.

She is survived by her sister Gail (Roy), and numerous nieces & nephews.

Jim was predeceased by her husband Leonard Cooke, first husband Tony Korble, son Gary Korble; parents, James Dean & Katherine Galloway and siblings Norma, Patricia, Donna, Auld, Dale & Daniel.

Jim was born in Athabasca, AB, and enjoyed growing up there spending her summers at the family cabin at Baptist Lake. After high school she joined the RCAF and served with them for 3 years before marrying Tony. Jim & Tony moved to BC where they both enjoyed a long career as high school teachers. After Tony’s passing, she married Len, both retired by then. Jim & Len then relocated back to Athabasca to be closer to their families in Alberta.

Jim always enjoyed travelling, and was an avid traveler throughout her life. She especially enjoyed her traveling to Hawaii and Japan. Other than travelling, Jim’s other love was playing bridge. She played as many times a week that she could.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Ironwood Estates in St Albert where she lived: Dr. Finlay McAlister and Nurses Anne-Marie & Melissa. She was one of your biggest fans! To the ladies at Exquisicare: Sandy, Lorelei and Mel, you were such a big help and comfort in her last weeks.  Thank you.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22 at All Saints Anglican church in Athabasca.

If so desired, memorial tributes may be made to Hope Mission: PO Box 953, Edmonton, Alberta, T5J 2L8.
