DE ZAEYER, ANDREW

On Thursday, May 21, 2020, Andrew De Zaeyer of Lac La Nonne, AB passed away in Keir Care Barrhead, AB at the age of 93 years.

Andrew was predeceased by his loving wife, Eileen; last month only 44 days earlier, after 65 years of marriage.

Dad will be remembered in many different ways, he worked hard and enjoyed mixed farming for most of his life until retiring. He also worked at the Barrhead Co-op for many years to help supplement the farm. His memory was excellent right up to his dying day; he could tell/direct us with ease and perfection where to find anything in his garage or farm. He took pride in everything he did, enjoyed challenges, was knowledgeable, he always said, “If you don’t try, how will you know you can do it or not”. There was nothing he could not do on their farm. The history of his lifetime surrounding area he knew very well, we were astounded with the details he remembered, especially after all those years ago. That knowledge made him very interesting to listen to. One of his favorite pastimes was visiting . . . he could visit with anyone, any age, young children, and babies adored Dad. He could be a trickster at times too . . . when he caught someone, he would get that big smile on his face, clap his hands, stomp his foot with joy.

Andrew is survived by his five children; Andy (Marlene), Marilyn (Gerry), Judy (Alvin), Loreen (Paul), and Dianna (David); eleven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Carol.

At the very end, he had a few people who made sure to contact him often. Those phone calls and visits when Mom was in Keir Care helped pass his very lonely days. Gary, Stephen and Vic were names Dad mentioned proudly. Dad was the last surviving of 13 children born to his parents; Guillaume and Mary (nee Borle) who immigrated from Belgium in the early 1900’s. Dad will be greatly missed.

A Family Internment will be held for both Dad and Mom at a later date.
