DEKAM, Lambertus (Bert)
Bert DeKam went to be with our Lord and Savior on August 26, 2020, and will be missed tremendously by his family and friends. Bert was born on March 12, 1930, in Koudekerke, Netherlands, and immigrated to Canada in 1951 where he lived in Westlock for 49 years and retired from farming to Sherwood Park in 2010.
In 1953, Bert married Theresa, the love of his life, in Westlock, and together they enjoyed 67 years of marriage. They had four children Susan (Ed), John (Karin), Lori (Steve), and Rob (Cheryl), and have a legacy of fourteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Bert will always be known for his strong faith and remembered as a quiet mentor who cherished every minute with his family and lived with integrity, kindness, generosity, gentleness, and pursuit of excellence in all aspects of his life. Bert loved farming and pursued this vocation for his entire life, enjoying both crops and animals. In addition, he was a skilled hunter, mechanic, welder, and blacksmith.
All who knew Bert were blessed in a special way and the memories of him will be cherished. A Private Family Memorial Service will be held with burial in the Hazel Bluff Cemetery. A Memorial Webcast will be held at a future date yet not determined and a charity for donations will be listed at that time. If you wish to view the webcast, please check the funeral home website where it will be posted in the month of September.
