DUNFORD, Gordon William

The family of Gordon Dunford of Edmonton, formerly of Dapp, wish to announce his peaceful passing in his sleep at his home May 12 at age 80.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Dawna, Terri (Bill), and grandchildren Brayden, Eva, and Duncan. He will also be missed by extended family and friends.

Gordon was predeceased by his wife Sylvia in 2002, his parents Ivan (1978) and Edith (2003), and his brother Milton in 1959.

Gordon was born June 11, 1939 at his maternal grandparents’ log home on their farm near Kilsyth rail siding (between Fawcett and Flatbush). The family lived on their homestead in the area before moving to the farm at Dapp in 1944, where he attended grade school at Dapp and high school in Westlock. After working for a time with Northern Alberta Railways telegraph as a linesman at various places, including McLennan and Waterways near Fort McMurray (where he met Sylvia Duncan, his future bride) he moved to Edmonton, where he was employed by Edmonton Telephones (which later became a part of TELUS) until his retirement.

Gordon also enjoyed a number of interesting hobbies in his lifetime, a love for the great outdoors, a love for travel, and a love of curling, not just playing the game, but working at the Avonair helping build and maintain the ice surface there.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Gordon’s name may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute for all their help in 2003 and 2019/20 and to the Curling Canada Foundation (For the Love of Curling) in honour of his passion and dedication to the sport.

A private family interment was held at Evergreen Funeral Home and Cemetery on Friday, May 22. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
