EMMERZAEL, A. WILLIAM (BILL)

Bill Emmerzael was called to his Heavenly home on November 26, 2020.

He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, and left the world the same way he lived it; surrounded by love and respect. Our hearts are heavy with his absence. He meant the world to so many as became apparent in the final weeks of his life.

Bill was born January 16, 1950 in Barrhead, AB. He spent his childhood in Neerlandia, Barrhead, Hinton and Mellowdale. He was married to Liz (Yuill) for 48 years, and together they had 3 children; Melissa (Greg), Heather (former husband Chris) and Graeme (Chelsea). Together they loved spending time with their 7 grandchildren; Evan, Damian, Logan, Lexi, Averie, Rowan and Maeve. Bill also leaves his siblings; Fred (Marilyn), Barb (Arnie) and Marlene (Andre) and sister-in-law Hetty, numerous nieces and nephews, family members and friends to mourn his loss.

He was predeceased by his parents, Pete and Eve Emmerzael and most recently his brother, Bob Emmerzael in October of 2020.

Bill was fortunate to find a career he loved and spent almost 40 years with the same company, AltaGas Utilities. He had an excellent work ethic and got his Bachelor of Administration while in Senior Management and raising a family. He had numerous courses and distinctions and was very well respected at his place of work.

Bill was very community-minded and also spent many years in different volunteer positions, such as the Chamber of Commerce and the Salem Manor Board. Bill’s true enjoyment came with cycling and being with his family and friends. He loved the acreage out at Shuswap Lake, and every summer enjoyed spending time camping with his family. Many hours were enjoyed on his bike, on the boat, at the beach and sitting around the campfire.

Through all of his accolades and accomplishments, Bill’s #1 priority was always his family. He and Liz were able to travel the world together, going throughout Canada and the US, Europe, Mexico and China. There is never enough time, but we are so thankful for the time we had together - especially in the last few months of his journey with cancer. His true character came shining through during the hardest time in his life, and we will draw on the strength he demonstrated in the years to come. Bill’s faith in the Lord was strong, and we take comfort in knowing we will see him again.
