It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Fluet share the news that their loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at the age of 85 years. Family meant everything to Dorothy, and she was loved and cherished by all her children.
She leaves to carry on her legacy her sons; Darrell (Karin), Tony (Janet), daughter Marty, son Dave, and daughter Lynn; grandchildren; Alex, Amelia, Dominique (Jamie), Neil (Krissy), Jon, Jax, Jade, and Joss; great-grandchildren; Shae, Brianna, Teagan, Ryder, Keltie; brothers; Bill (Audrey), Carl (Marie); sisters, Ella (Jim) and Barbara as well as many other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Niels and Amelia, brother Jack and sister Freda.
Dorothy was born in Spring Valley, Saskatchewan, and raised in Manola and Highridge, Alberta. She went to high school in Barrhead, then to the University of Alberta and became a teacher in Meadowview. After her marriage to Phil Fluet in 1957 and raising their 5 children, she greatly enjoyed being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She became a bookkeeper, and filled her days as an active volunteer for community organizations, the local music festival, as a long term member of a fitness group, and sang in a senior’s choir in Barrhead. Dorothy then moved to Edmonton to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Dorothy walked every day and did all she could to live a healthy and happy life. She expressed her creativity in stitching tapestries and quilts that are cherished by the family. Dorothy was a bright intelligent woman and a kind and dedicated mother who, with a warm heart and a sweet smile as she hummed a favorite song, faced life’s challenges with dignity and grace. Dorothy will be missed, loved, and always remembered by those whose lives she touched. The family thanks the nurses, caregivers, and companions at Jasper Place Continuing Care Center and Kiwanis Place Lodge who helped Dorothy through her final years and treated her with the same kindness and respect that Dorothy always showed to others.
