Gwendolyn Nancy Hall

May 7, 1935 – August 30, 2022

Gwen Hall (née Kerbes) is at peace, following an adventurous life of facing every challenge with energy and enthusiasm. Raised on an old style farm near Big Valley, at a very young age Gwen happily took to helping her parents with farm work and raising her younger siblings. At 21 she graduated with her RN from Calgary General Hospital, intending to go on to bible school and become a missionary-nurse. However, fate intervened and she got into an unhappy marriage that later failed. As a single parent mother, Gwen nursed at hospitals in Vancouver, Stettler, Mayerthorpe, and Edmonton.

In 1970 she married Ernie Hall who brought her and her children to a farm near Gibbons, later to one near Boyle. She loved the whirlwind of farm work and the rural life with Ernie, helping neighbors and attending church. She especially enjoyed growing large gardens, raising goats and planting trees to grace their farm. Ernie passed away in 2008. Gwen sold the farm three years later, setting up a new home in Ashmont with another garden and meeting new friends. The slower pace allowed her to pursue her passion for natural wild herbs and medicines.

Survived by her daughter Grace of Ashmont, sons Dan of Victoria BC and Jason of Edmonton, granddaughters Samantha and Kaitlyn of Whitecourt and Darcy (Layne) McCallum of Mayerthorpe, brother Richard (Eveline Boudreau) Kerbes of Saskatoon, sister Rose (Robert) Silverthorne of Camrose, several nieces and nephews.

Gwen was predeceased by her sister Charlotte, husband Ernie Hall, and brother Robert.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Gwen’s life will be held at a later date.
