Edwin Kallal

Ed was born in Tofield, Alberta, in 1934. The family relocated to Westlock in 1941. Dad attended Vermilion Agricultural School, where he captained the basketball team and met his lifelong partner of 70 years, Helen.

After working in Edmonton for a short while, they moved back to Westlock to help on the Kallal family farm. Later, they purchased their own farm in Fawcett, and in 1975 they settled once again in Westlock when they bought the Kallal family farm.

Dad was a strong advocate for better agriculture, supporting the 4-H beef clubs and the Pembina Forage Association. He loved to drive; as a longtime cattle truck owner-operator, he found his niche in retirement as a hail adjuster. This role allowed him to travel all over Alberta, meeting and talking to other farmers—something that brought him much joy.

Dad is survived by his loving wife, Helen; daughter, Barbara; sons, Shawn, Terrance, Jeffery and Allan; and their families, which now spans five generations.

A Funeral Service was held July 19, 2025, at St. Finnan’s Catholic Church, Dapp, AB.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Council 3948, Westlock Knights of Columbus.
