Kastelic, Albert

1930 - 2021

It is with heavy hearts, the family of Albert Leo Kastelic announce his peaceful passing, at 91 years of age. Albert lived in the Sangudo, AB area most of his life until retiring to St. Albert, AB in 2009.

He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his seven children: Douglas (Bernadette), Don (Bernice), David (Mary Lou), Lori (Norm) Therrien, Lisa (Earl) Greenhough, Darin (Deana), and Leanne (Craig) Hodgman. He was also deeply loved by twenty grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. In addition, he leaves to mourn; sister-in-law, Mary Kastelic and brother-in-law, Leonard (Linda) Anderson.

Albert was predeceased by his loving wife, Audrey, of 62 years; parents, Joseph and Jennie Kastelic; three brothers, Joseph, Frank and John; three sisters, Jennie, Adeline and Lucille.

Central to Albert’s life was his family and faith. He was a devoted husband and would share his gratitude to God for giving him his soul mate, Audrey. He was a patient and loving father, and cherished grandfather. He often said his greatest legacy was his family and the love we share. His family will remember him as a wise advisor, as he would guide through example and share gentle lessons.

Albert was an avid reader. He had a curious mind, and he loved to engage in current events, sports and agriculture. In 2020, Albert wrote a book: his personal story of faith, family, fellowship and farming, entitled: A Good Life. His loved one’s marvel at how he expressed gratitude for everything in his life. His cherished life story will be treasured for generations to come.

He often commented that he was given two hands; one to help himself and one to help others. A dedicated member of his community, he could always be counted on by neighbors, friends and community members to lend his helping hand. Albert believed that volunteering brought people together to make their community a better place.

Albert was a farmer at heart with long-standing commitment and involvement in the dairy community. At his retirement, he was honoured to receive several awards within the Canadian Dairy Industry.

Albert made a difference in so many people’s lives. Throughout his life, people gravitated to him for his positive attitude, sense of humor and common-sense thinking. He made connections wherever he went and was valued for his wisdom, insight, and compassion.

As his physical health declined, he faced it with courage, acceptance and grace.
