Elsie Talita Schmidt (nee Mantei)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mom, Elsie Schmidt, on October 3, 2023.

God gave us the best and we are grateful for the time we had with our beautiful wife, mom, and grandma. Elsie lived her life with joy and gratitude, and we will treasure all our memories.

She leaves to mourn her loss, the love of her life, her devoted husband of 63 years, Gilbert, and her 3 children: Joan (Ken) Gravel, Connie (Dwayne) Baird, and Greg (Dana) Schmidt.

Grandma Elsie will also be deeply missed by her 10 precious grandchildren: Troy (Danni) Gravel, Jennifer (Terry) Rentz, Michael (Briana) Gravel, Neil (Calin) Gravel, Daniel Gravel, Brandi Goudreau, Mark (Keri) Baird, Jolene (Matt) Baird, Nolan (Sierra) Schmidt, and Nathan (Kristin) Schmidt. They will forever cherish her wise words of wisdom, her witty sense of humour and most of all her home-made donuts.

Her precious great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. Ashlyn, Raelyn, Kayden, Liam, and Kale Rentz, Reece and Trent Gravel, Bentley, Kinsley, and Oliver Gravel, Quinn, Ava, and Chase Goudreau, Bryxton and Kingston Baird, Bennett and Owen Hauck, and Dallas and Miller Schmidt will forever cherish the love and joy of their great-grandma Elsie.

Elsie will also be missed by her brother Arnie (Dana) Mantei and her brother-in-law Bob Lee and Gilbert’s family, Walter and Emi Schmidt, Eleanor and Jim Branden, Brenda and Cal Visser, and Eileen and Gary Muri.

Elsie was predeceased by her parents Alex and Olga Mantei, her sister Gertrude Lee, and her brother Erwin Mantei, her in-laws Albert and Olga Schmidt, Henry and Elsie Schmidt, Alma and Reiny Koberstein, Leonard and Vivian Schmidt, and Raymond Schmidt

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the loving, caring, and compassionate staff at the Barrhead Continuing Care Center and to Dr. Bernes. Thank you for the love and care you gave to our mom. Special thanks and love to Elsie’s niece, Jody, for all the love, care, and time that you gave to your Auntie Elsie.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Elsie’s memory can be made to the Barrhead Continuing Care Center or St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday October 11, 2023 at 1:00 PM from St. John’s Lutheran Church, Barrhead, Alberta.
