With great sadness we announce that Fettje Viersen (Veenstra) passed away on November 7, 2021 after having suffered a stroke a week earlier. We are comforted by the knowledge that she is with her LORD and Saviour, Jesus Christ, awaiting the great resurrection.

Fettje was born in the Zevenhuizen, Groningen in 1935, to Stoffer and GrietVeenstra.Together with six siblings, (Jannus, Hennie, Linda, Willie, Ted, and Jenny) she lived through the war, on a little dairy farm in Haulerwijk, Friesland. In 1951 the family emigrated to Canada, and settled in Telkwa, BC, where little brother George was later born.

Fettje married Andries Viersen in 1955, and together they raised eleven children. The family moved to Neerlandia, Alberta in 1977, and here Fettje and Andries retired. They enjoyed gardening, crafting, reading, and visiting with friends and family.

Fettje was predeceased by her daughter Margaret, her two grandsons, Andy and Jorge, and her husband of 65 years, Andries. Also, her brothers Jannus and George.

She is survived by her loving children, two sons: Stanley (Irene) Viersen, Andrew (Rianne) Viersen, and eight daughters: Joanne (Dick) Barendregt, Monica (Carl) Oosterhoff, Teresa (Len) Bergsma, Sharon (Jerold) VanAssen, Yvonne (Jan) Harink, Christina (Kevin) Vanderzyl, Felicia (John) Wierenga, and Lydia (Hans) Kruidhof. She will be missed by many in her family, church, and community. We thank all of you who showed her love and kindness especially after the passing of our dad eleven months ago. We remember her as someone who served the LORD all her days with joy.
