2013: a year to remember

Well, what a year it was. And what a year beckons. As the clock ticks over from 2013 to 2104, it is natural to be in a reflective and forward-thinking mood. Think of 2013 and one event shines like a glorious beacon.

Well, what a year it was. And what a year beckons. As the clock ticks over from 2013 to 2104, it is natural to be in a reflective and forward-thinking mood.

Think of 2013 and one event shines like a glorious beacon. The Alberta 55-plus Summer Games co-hosted by Barrhead and Westlock lived up to its billing, proving a games for dreaming, achieving and inspiring. The other highlight of 2013 was the municipal election that brought a new look to council, with Gerry St. Pierre replacing Brian Schulz as Mayor.

Looking ahead one of the biggest challenges facing Barrhead is the swimming pool project.

It is an age-old conundrum. How do we stay progressive without overreaching ourselves? How do we attract people while spending within our means? These are questions that the pool plan has brought to the fore. Yet they are questions that have always been present.

As this summer proved, virtually any challenge can be met and overcome, so there is every reason to be extremely bullish about our future.

Let the spirit of the Games live on!

We wish everyone a very happy New Year.
