A dustup on dust control

Dear Editor, After reading the local papers, I am once again compelled to take pen in hand and question our Woodlands County councillors on some of their spending approvals in very tough economic times.

Dear Editor,

After reading the local papers, I am once again compelled to take pen in hand and question our Woodlands County councillors on some of their spending approvals in very tough economic times. Case in point being the dust control policy only being $250.00 for an application. There are approximately 100 of these done every year and cost the taxpayers of the whole county $2,000.00 or more per application. So why are we subsidizing these to the tune of $1,750.00 per application? As all taxpayers of this county are you okay with your taxes being spent to subsidize for the benefit of a few. A much larger portion of the cost should be paid for by the receiving applicant. Ask your councillor about the $175,000.00 that the rest of taxpayers are picking up.

Also I would like to question the views of our councillors on county vegetation. Was there any forward thinking into doing it in-house instead of another $426,000.00 plus contract. I went to Martin Deerline and received quotes for tractors and mowers to rent for the summer and do the work with hired operators, but the CAO and councillors at that time didn’t like that idea or just were not interested in pursuing that option. Is it any wonder we are in such a sorry state of affairs to initiate positive change and innovative ideas?

Don’t forget my fellow readers and taxpayers, it only starts at the local level and gets worse the higher it goes.
