Ambition of our youth

Small towns take pride in supporting their local businesses. The independent shops are often run by family, friends, or neighbours.

Small towns take pride in supporting their local businesses. The independent shops are often run by family, friends, or neighbours.

Walking into a store to see a familiar face is what gives communities that “tight-knit” feel, something much harder to find in larger cities.

It’s no secret shopping local is essential to ensuring Barrhead remains the vibrant, lively town it has become.

New aspiring business owners should always be welcomed with open arms.

It’s exciting to hear the interest of any entrepreneur, and even more encouraging when those people are the youth of this town. Those who are fresh out of high school and have high hopes of one day contributing to the business owner population.

A teen by the name of Nathaniel Krikke has plans to do just this.

The 19-year-old music-lover has big ideas for his future. After college he would like nothing better than to return to his hometown and open a music and record store.

In fact, he’s already kick-started his idea by launching a new online record store for the Barrhead area. He’s on the road to achieving his dream, giving Barrhead something new in the process.

It’s ambitious individuals like Nathaniel who are the future of this town. He is not only interested in contributing to the economic growth of the town, but to Barrhead’s music culture.

Nathaniel is also intrigued in the posibility of his future shop to have a cafe or lounge section, which would offer a relaxed and inviting atmosphere open to anyone with a love of music. From there he could incorporate live music, said Nathaniel, perhaps a different genre each day.

This community does have an array of delightful restaurants, both sit-down and take-out. There are places to grab a coffee, and a few establishments where one might get a drink or two. However what Nathaniel is pondering could add a different touch.

A place to gather and relax after 6 p.m., to enjoy the precence of live musicians in what Nathaniel refers to as an “easy-going and unique atmosphere.”

What a positive addition to the community this music store would be. Good luck to the young entrepreneur.
