As residents anxiously wait to find out if Barrhead’s Curling Club is the winner of the 2014 Kraft Celebration Tour, excitement is building for TSN’s live broadcast on Monday, August 18.

The Leader has given this event a lot of coverage over the last few weeks and that is how it should be, considering this could be the biggest event of the year.

There will be plenty for residents to do besides the live broadcast including games and activities for children.

Adults will also be kept busy, as there will be an assortment of sports games including the CFL on TSN Football Quarterback Challenge, along with sampling tents filled with Kraft products. There will also be a tent filled with celebrities so residents can fill up their autograph books. Celebrities already confirmed will include local athletes Nikolas Koberstein and Kagen Schmidt as well as professional curler Val Sweeting and her team. There will also be members from the Edmonton Eskimos cheer squad.

Local residents have also stepped up to show their community spirit by organizing a host of carnival-type games, including a watermelon-eating contest and a country line dance presentation.

The event will begin at 2:00 p.m. beside the grain elevators on 50th Avenue. Organizers are asking that every resident come out for this once-in-a-lifetime party. Kraft Celebration Tour will be hosting a barbecue for all of the region’s residents during the event.

At the Leader, we had the opportunity to chat with TSN anchor Kate Beirness, and she shared her excitement for the visit to town.

“I can’t even tell you how much I love Alberta. I already have my country outfit ready to go. When we were in Cochrane, Alberta two years ago, they were kind enough to give us cowboy boots and the whole wardrobe so, let’s just say I am a massive fan of Alberta and I cannot wait to come back,” she said.
