In a world that often feels ruled by all that’s new and fashionable, it is a comfort to find threads common to all generations.
One of these threads is art, which survives trends and fads, and is only governed by the limits of our imagination. Thankfully, those limits are generously wide in Barrhead, as anyone who visited the Seniors Drop-in Centre on Friday, Saturday or Sunday could bear witness.
What they saw were 119 exhibits by some of the brightest stars in the regional arts firmament.
The Alberta Community Arts Clubs Association (ACACA) Northern Zone Show is a highly prestigious event, open to artists who live north of Highway 16. Of course, that includes Barrhead which has long had a thriving art community.
The fact is Barrhead is brimming with artistic talent. What better validation than the three Northern Zone Show jurors, who named six Barrhead Art Club members as winners of the seven awards up for grabs? It was an astonishing achievement. Truly there are gifted people in our midst, people who create art of gold.
