Dear Editor,

What is the Answer??

“Dying with Dignity” is becoming a phrase that we hear more and more. It is often used by those who wish to promote assisted suicide. Recently, I listened to Dr. Brian Goldman (on the CBC) interviewing Mr. Nagui Morcos who suffers from Huntington’s disease.

Mr. Morcos spoke clearly about his desire to take his own life before deterioration in his clinical condition forced someone else with the appropriate authority to act on his behalf.

At the end of the interview, Dr. Goldman asked Morcos to come back. “Maybe it’s because a part of me hopes for one last chance to get a fine man like Nagui to change his mind and choose life,” the doctor said.

All of us who are concerned that Canada should have strong laws to protect life would do well to ask our MPs who are out gathering votes, to address this issue.

I would like to encourage all who read this, to inform our government that assisted suicide is not a solution for those who suffer. Instead, I’d like to see palliative care expanded and improved. Canada has a responsibility to ensure that comprehensive, compassionate hospice palliative care is available to all. The Sixth Commandment clearly states; “you shall not commit murder.”

Human life is very precious in God’s sight.

If you wish to become more informed on euthanasia prevention, here is a website I recommend: http://www.epcc.ca.
