The Town of Barrhead can already consider itself a winner after being named one of ten finalists for the Kraft Celebration Tour.

The nomination will provide Canadians with a unique look at a small community in central Alberta. Over the next few weeks, with the coverage on TSN, many other people will see the beauty of the place we call home. This honour can only increase the exposure of the town and benefit the residents, businesses, and organizations in Barrhead.

Members of the curling club deserve a round of applause for doing a great job, specifically Patty Storseth-Wierenga, who spearheaded the nomination package. Kelly Fleming, Kraft Celebration Tour Brand Manager, explained that Barrhead’s nomination package “demonstrated community passion and a commitment to healthy living.”

Throughout many of the small communities across this great country there are many passionate people and it is wonderful to see that Barrhead has those types of individuals.

Barrhead will be representing the province of Alberta during this competition and it would be nice if the other municipalities stepped up and helped Barrhead become the winner of the 2014 Kraft Celebration Tour.

Whether or not Barrhead wins the competition, they are already winners as they have been guaranteed $25,000 for being a finalist. The money will go to completing some much-needed repairs for the curling rink. More importantly, the curling club will now have the opportunity to teach a new generation about the joy and fun of curling, a sport Canadians dominated at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Maybe a future Olympian in curling will come from the Town of Barrhead.

Good luck Barrhead in your quest to become the winner of the 2014 Kraft Celebration Tour.
