It has been a good week for Barrhead athletes. Golden glory and valiant victories are high this year for the town’s winter sports.
The Barrhead Midget Steelers always put on an impressive show. The team has begun its climb to the top, taking the North Division championship against their Edson Rivals last week.
Now, the boys will wait to see who their Southern opponents will be, and they will fight for victory at the provincial level.
Speaking of winners on ice, there are five Barrhead curlers who can hold their heads high as well. The Barrhead Composite High School boys curling team headed out to Leduc to compete in Provincials over the weekend, where they fought a hard battle to take home the gold.
This is the first time Barrhead Composite has had a boys team win zones and make it to the Provincial level. Even more impressive is the boys were the youngest team at provincials.
The boy’s Senior Jags basketball team claimed first place in the junior high divisional tournament over the weekend too. This is the third year in a row Barrhead players have walked off the court as champs.
Though the girl’s basketball team fell short in the gold medal game, they will still be walking proud with silver medals.
Barrhead, the town of champions.
