Barrhead has done it again. Community members dedicated to making this town a better place for families have put on yet another successful event. The long awaited Fantastic Family Fun Fest finally arrived in Barrhead over the weekend, and it did not disappoint. From the moment a family stepped into the hustle and bustle of the dozens of activities available, it was easy to see the organizers put many long hours of thought into making this day a success.

Though there was a light snow, it wasn’t cold enough to dampen any spirits. And hey, if you felt a chill in your bones, there was a conveniently crackling bonfire outside the Agrena. Free food and beverage? Check. Warm, inviting fire? Check.

The F4 committee even went as far as thinking about transportation. Instead of having to drive or walk back and forth from the school to the Agrena, why not have a horse drawn sleigh instead? Bumping along pulled by two horses, it was hard not to enjoy being outside. Hopping off at the school the fun had only just begun.

Stepping into the gym, it was hard to know where to look first. The penny carnival? Creative family photos? Perhaps Dan the One Man band...though the bouncy castle looked pretty tempting too. No face looked long, no child looked bored, no parent seemed impatient. It was a room full of family fun, which was exactly the point.

If by some chance the gym became a little too much, the library offered a slightly quieter activity centre. Families were able to work together to build a plastic bottle birdhouse or a Lego city centre.

February can be dark and dreary, but it’s these determined groups who continue bring light and happiness where sometimes it’s scarce. F4 would be a great addition to Barrhead’s annual calendar, but only time will tell if this wonderful event will make a triumphant return.
