No matter the city in which you live, in any part of the world, there are animals in need of rescue.
Animals aren’t able to speak up for themselves, so the onus is on us to step up and make sure cats and dogs are safe. Enter organizations like the Barrhead Animal Rescue Society, which makes it their mission to take animals out of dangerous situations and eventually find loving homes for them.
The fact the world needs such organizations is in and of itself a pity, but that’s the reality. And, it’s people like Terry Colborne and his crew of volunteers to whom we turn when we find animals in distress. Whether it’s rescuing an animal from an abusive home, or someone cold-heartedly dropped off a litter of kittens on the side of a road in sub-zero temperatures, rescue societies are there to care for those animals.
Barrhead is no different than any other community, and there is a definite need for an animal rescue society. BARS has been around for more than a year, and Colborne has been extremely busy caring for other people’s unwanted pets. Anyone who ventures out to the society can see quite plainly that Colborne is well-suited for his duties as president. He cares for every animal that comes under his supervision.
Running a successful animal rescue society is a big job, and it takes a group effort to achieve that success. There have been a number of people who have provided a helping hand since the inception of BARS, but there really is a lot more work that needs to be done. That’s why Colborne is desperately seeking some very dedicated people to fill some vital roles.
Colborne will be giving up his presidency due to medical issues, and he has some pretty big shoes to fill. But, there has to be someone out there who can come forward and express interest in the position. Finding that person will prove to be a challenge, because everyone is busy in today’s society.
Drastic measures must take place to keep the society alive. Barrhead needs an animal rescue society, it’s that simple. Residents need a place from which they can adopt a new family member who comes spayed or neutered. Those residents also have to realize that there will be a cost involved with such an adoption. It costs quite a bit of money to have a cat or dog spayed or neutered, and an animal rescue society is a non-profit organization. That’s why they have to charge people for adopting an animal.
Then again, it also helps to weed out the people who may not be ready for the financial burden of owning a pet. Anyone who isn’t willing to pay the adoption fee is likely to find a free pet elsewhere, and not have them spayed or neutered, and that animal will have a litter with the newborns being given away to owners who neglect to have their pet spayed or neutered, and it becomes a vicious cycle.
That isn’t to say it will happen with every person, but there are people out there with no sense of responsibility who create the need for animal rescue societies. As long as these people exist, so will animal rescue societies.
We need to take measures to ensure those organizations are able to keep their doors open.
