Town of Barrhead got national coverage when they were highlighted during the Kraft Celebration Tour on Monday, August 18.
Over 1,000 residents came out to support the town, Kraft, and TSN in what could be considered the biggest event of the year.
Co-organizers Patty Storseth-Wierenga and Jenny Bruns, along with the numerous volunteers, should be commended, not only for all of the hard work leading up to the event but for the extremely long two days during the actual event.
Volunteers spent countless hours meeting and working with TSN and Kraft representatives to make sure everything ran smoothly, and boy did it ever. Everyone seemed to be impressed with the work done by the local organizing committee, including Kelly Fleming from Kraft.
“Throughout the nomination process, Barrhead has been at the top. They have been unbelievable. The passion and community spirit we saw leading up to that $100,000 vote and all the way up to today was fantastic so it was really thrilling to be here today,” she said. “Even when the busses rolled in and we saw all of the signs in people’s windows welcoming Kraft and TSN, we had that feeling of pride and excitement. It was great to actually meet the people, talk one-on-one with everyone and to celebrate their achievement.”
The residents that came out should also be commended, as it was a difficult day of the week. It was a Monday, in the middle of the day when people should have been at work but that didn’t deter residents from showing their support.
Overall, it was an amazing day and the Town of Barrhead, the residents, and most importantly, the organizing committee should take great pride in what they accomplished because, for one day, Barrhead was the focus of a nation.
